World No. 1 Iga Swiatek wins her third major title at the US Open

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek beat Serena Williams 6-3, 6-2 to win her third major of the season at the US Open.
Swiatek, the defending champion, started off fast and never let Williams get into a rhythm. She controlled the first set 6-0 and went 4-0 in the second set beforeWilliams broke and served for the set at 3-3. Swiatek immediately started looking to break, but ended up breaking again. She broke serve at 2-2, then broke Williams at 5-4 to regain the first set.
Swiatek broke Williams’ serve and served at 2-1 to start the final set, but she still had to serve it out at love. In the second game, she broke to love at 3-3 and won the next two. She then broke Williams again to go up 5-2, but Williams responded on her next opportunity to break. She broke again and saved four match points. Both players had to serve it out at love and Williams broke to take the match.
Swiatek started off strong in her third at Flushing Meadows. She broke serve in the first game of the second set to give her a quick lead. Williams was aggressive in the next game, but she still broke her opponent in the fifth game. Williams broke back in the seventh game, but Swiatek broke her again to go up 5-2.
Williams broke Swiatek and served at 2-1 in the opening game of the third set, but she couldn’t convert the break point and had to go for a match point. She could’t get it down to the net and called for a medical timeout.
